Winter Aconite

Sorry to be posting another flower. Unlike the true Aconite (Aconitum spp), these (Eranthis) are not poisonous.

This one growing in the wilds of the area by the pond-that-doesn't-have-any-water, which we visited today to see if the frogs are returning. Not yet, but they won't be long.

It is sad to see that there is still a low, but constant, supply of litter thrown over the fence from the park. We were hoping that the local Scouts would take it on as a local project but this has not happened and is too late in the season to begin now.

Snowdrops are much in evidence as well as these Aconites and a few daffodils emerging, all derived from garden waste thrown from properties adjacent to the old sandpits. The wild garlic (Ramsons) is just starting to show glossy spikes, making a carpet of green beneath the bare branches of the trees. This year I might try cooking with it.
