Fresh Wind in Vienna Forest

My former employer Grand Metropolitan bought the bankrupt German  "Wienerwald" restaurant chain from the founder Friedrich Jahn, an Austrian, in December 1988. The once almost world-conquering chicken restaurant chain named after the Vienna Forest, was to be Grand Met's superstar entry into mainland Europe. 18 months later they announced it was to be sold!

It took a while but in May 1991, the chain was sold to a company owned 51% by the City of Vienna and 49% by Austrian banks. Here they announce they will be going into the forest to do a lot of pruning  and felling of rotten trees. I don't have the details but Wienerwald continued to struggle and slowly the ex-colleagues in the depleted Munich HQ were  looking for alternative employment.
