Crash Landing?

I was taking pictures of plum blossom with the intention of uploading when this chap landed beside me.
No idea what kind of wasp it is and it was cleaning itself and just looked like it had crashed.

Today has been a good day so far - the weather is good, my father isn't as ill as had been feared and we are out to freinds for dinner
