Van Gogh

Yesterday (15 April) we visited the Van Gogh Alive Experience.  It was a fabulous, immersive experience.  The first room contained prints of some of Van Gogh’s paintings, much as you would find in a normal gallery. There were also quotations from Van Gogh and a description of the multi-sensory experience.  Then we moved into the area where the “experience” took place.  I can’t really do it justice, but there were giant “screens” at all sorts of angles all around the room with constantly moving depictions of Van Gogh’s paintings, quotes, descriptions of his life, wonderful music and even a specially-created scent wafting in the air.  There was no need to walk around, you just found a spot to sit or stand, then watched as the multi-media took place all around you.  It brought Van Gogh’s paintings to life and told his story in a wonderful way.  The “audience” was a cosmopolitan mix of people of all ages and it was an absolutely fabulous experience.
