Gently down the stream

Ivy-leaved Toadflax

Cymbalaria muralis

This toadflax is flowering everywhere right now.  It enjoys growing on walls, above the herb robert and dandelions, though today I found it at the base of a parking sign.  In fact, I'm astonished just how many wildflowers make themselves at home in our cities (and I don't just mean in town gardens!).  The flowers are only about 8mm across - tiny - so it was fun getting in close.

Once in the High Street I had a look round for what Winchester might be doing to mark the day of Prince Philip's funeral.  Not a lot, is the answer.  I saw the Union Jack at half mast outside the Guildhall and a couple of wreaths on a bench outside the Mayor's official residence.  Oh, and understand (though didn't see) a pigeon was being released by the Cathedral.  Let's hope the peregrine falcons who are nesting on the roof didn't see the release either, or the gesture might be even more underwhelming than it sounds!

Enjoy your Saturday evening/Sunday morning  xx

Just a reminder: as from tomorrow morning we will be moving on to WildflowerWeek21_04 (already?  I can't believe it!)  That lasts until the end of next Saturday (24th)
