Southern style! 7am Delaine and I were outside preparing the ground for a barbecue pit made of concrete blocks. The men just did not have time! Hah! They were not even here! The purpose of a pit is to cook a large quantity of pork over hot coals. The coals are from wood such as oak or hickory that will be burned in a metal barrel and the transferred to the pit. The pork will be place on a metal grill and covered with a non flamnable material and a sheet of plywood. The cooking takes hours..even as much as 12 hours depending on the size of the pig. It is a southern thing.

After six hours we finished what we could do as we ran out of cement for the last layers of brick at the top.

We really look like crazy mountain people. I still had bed head! But don’t ever underestimate southern women!

The semi finished product is in the extras. And yeah, concrete block are heavy.


We don’t know if we will be able to get out of bed in the morning without groaning like old ladies.

But we will finish it tomorrow and have a short hike planned!
