The Poss

Stratherrick Park

A private development of an old mansion converted into flats with some new flats alongside. But you can walk through the grounds between two roads and for me it makes for a nice quick circular walk. The duck pond was mostly ice-covered and no sign of any ducks but I glimpsed what I think was a moorhen scuttling across the ice into the bushes.

ADDED LATER: A few years ago the ducks were all over the place. The pond was fed by a stream which ran under Drummond Road at a sharp bend. The ducks used to sit on the wall of the bridge and often cross the road.. I quite liked being held up by the little tykes as did Mrs P but many people obviously hated an interruption to their 50 mph traverse along the road and Highland Council agreed. OK their planners won't agree to trees being cut down but ducks are as nothing to them. So they made it very difficult for the ducks to cross the road or to even to just trot along it. So functionally this part of the world is a much better place - you can drive to work without being brought to a stop by a dumb duck but I prefer things as they were.
