Great Langdale

We are so lucky - another beautiful day whilst on the TV we hear about snow and travel disruption. It wasn't warm, but the clarity and winter colours were first class.

In the foreground are some of the Langdale Boulders. On one of the massive boulders (not in the photo) are neolithic rock carvings, apparently not rediscovered until 1999. Not surprising as they are very difficult to make out, even when you know what and where you are supposed to be looking. The purpose or meaning of this rock art is unknown, but I do know that it would have been carved in the morning because when shade moves over the rock face it is damn cold!
