Mill the Kaai and the Lemstergate

Molen de Kaai (until 2005 flour mill Sloten) is an octagonal tower mill, with a flight of 18.10 metres. It is a top porter which means that you can turn the hood of the mill so that the blades can be set on the wind.

The mill stands on a bastion of the city wall and is therefore very iconic.

This historic town was founded in the 13th century. It lay at the intersection of a country road and an important shipping route. A protective rampart with four entrance gates was built around the town. The two water gates are still there. Including the stone gate to Lemmer (the “Lemsterpoort”)!
