The iconic lighthouse at Roath Park, Cardiff

Just returned from a two day trip to my hometown, Cardiff.
Mother-in-law had been admitted to hospital with early onset Alzeimers, but was refusing to recognise that she needed residential care.
I must admit that looking at the decor of some of the nursing homes that were being proposed, I too would resist with every fibre in my being. Why do so many think that the moment we need care we stop caring. If I saw another room with mismatched plastic chairs around the perimeter of the room I would scream.
Anyway, we had a result in that minutes from our home in Devon is a home for Polish people and their spouses who fought in WW2. It was set up after the war as a thank you to the Polish who fought at Monte Casino. The upshot is she will be in a beautiful room with French doors on to beautifully manicured parkland and will be only 10 minutes from our home. She sounded excited by the prospect. Long may it continue.
