Incongruous

Heat pump tech comes to the barn. Built over twenty years ago from straw bales, it’s still going strong.

The day starts badly. The installation crew are surprised that we aren’t on mains water. The surveyor apparently didn’t think it was worth mentioning, but this means that a pressurised hot water system powered by the heat pump is off the agenda.

Then the sparky notices that the supply to the barn runs off a 63A fuse. He calculates that this is insufficient to supply the barn safely. So, I’ll be ordering 110m off 25mm armoured cable to run the spare 100A phase directly to the barn.

Finally, the foreman tells me he’ll need to lift ALL the floorboards to run copper to the radiators. We agree to surface mount the pipes instead, which requires furniture to be moved, back boards to be installed, and a socket to be removed.
