Over the Dales

I do love driving to Hull, my parents home town, they moved to Morecambe Bay before I was born. Most trips over were for family visits, but many were in fact for funerals, it’s so important to have family gatherings that aren’t funerals, and I’m so happy we managed it last night.
After a farewell yummy brunch cooked by my brother, we were off at about 1pm, all loaded up. It was raining, but that didn’t stop us enjoying the drive through Kirkby Lonsdale, Barbondale, Dentdale, and Wensleydale, with stops in Dent and Ayesgarth Falls.
We arrived in Hull at the Port, 25 mins early, well in fact over 2 hours before sailing time, and they were panicking that we wouldn’t have time to da a Covid test. We said we didn’t need one, as of 8th August Netherlands would accept Covid Certificates compliant with EU, which the Swiss one is. A heated argument ensued. I explained we had a valid PCR test in any case, from 48 hours ago, which was valid. She couldn’t find swab date on it, and unless we paid another 120£ we wouldn’t be able to board the ship. We have been totally ripped off by P&O ferries, by their little predeparture money making scheme.
Of course we were all negative, being doubly vaccinated and having 3 expensive Covid tests within one week. Oh how I dismay at Brexit.
On board our spirits were low, a pizza cheered the kids up a bit, then Harry went to bed. Rosanna and I had a drink in the bar, with only 3 other tables of guests, listening to a very good singer, then did the pub quiz, where we came third, out of 4 teams!
