Newbiggin Kite Festival...and a Dolphin!

We decided to go back to Newbiggin to have another attempt at seeing dolphins (see my blip from Thursday for an explanation), knowing that at least we'd be able to enjoy their kite festival this weekend. There were some fab kites, some of which are shown in this collage - and we loved "Little Ted" on his deckchair hanging tightly onto the string of his kite! It's just as well he was tethered to his chair and the chair tethered to the sand as the wind was quite strong!

And lo and behold, just as we were about to leave, a pod of dolphins did come past on their way south. They were a LOOONG way out (we guessed at least 1/4 to 1/2 a mile) but with my long lens and a lot of cropping I did manage a few reasonable-ish shots so I'll put one in the extra. Of course we heard that dolphins had been playing close to the pier at Tynemouth this morning but we weren't there - the trials and tribulations of wildlife photography! We'll keep trying to get a closer look at them.
