tempus fugit

Dividing lines

Been thinking a lot about refugees, who's in, who's out etc.

A good time to reread Brian Bilston's poem on the subject -which makes us think about us as much as them.

I've also been looking at ASG's blips again. I wonder who else remembers them?  ASG, real name Paul Hutchinson, was a Welsh soldier who served several tours in Afghanistan both as  a member of the British army and on contract subsequently. I initially followed him because of some blips of aerial views of the Welsh coast taken when sky-diving but then he opened a window into a world of which I had no knowledge at all. His language and opinions were often made me blench but he also had  compassion and a genuine interest in the lives of the people,  especially the children, amongst who he lived and worked. He took many remarkable photographs and hoped to publish a book of them one day. Sadly Paul died suddenly in 2017 in unrelated circumstances but were he still alive I feel sure he would be highly vocal about the plight of the Afghans who helped and supported the British forces and who have now been callously abandoned by our government.
