.303

The spaniel and I walked over the part of the common this morning that was used for military training in both the first and second world wars. Heavy rain washes out the spent cartridges and in a few minutes I'd found three .303 rounds. Took them home and cleaned them up to reveal the headstamps. These show that two were First World War vintage, one from the Green & Batley factory, the other from Kynoch's. The third cartridge is from the Royal laboratory, Woolwich Arsenal and is dated 1941.
