The tree sends a message

No change in the weather - overcast, drizzle in the morning and feeling chilly. Haircut this morning followed by ironing that had been ignored for too long. Finished pruning the shrubs at the front this afternoon, so a trip to the recycling site is now required again.
I started watching on BBC I-player a documentary about Afghanistan whilst doing the ironing. It describes the history not only of Afghanistan but of 20th century global politics that has contributed to more recent events. I am left wondering whether the lessons of history are ever learnt or whether politicians are required to take a pledge not to take notice of them. For the people of Afghanistan, I wonder at their resilience in enduring so much suffering in every generation.
