Carol's ramblings

Lace day

Up at the crack of dawn (packed the car up last night) and off to our lace day. We have a new venue this year, so lots of things different. :)

Set up - tables, kitchen, raffle, support for the suppliers. Ready before time, giving us time to relax before doors open at 10:30. :)

Once doors open, manned the raffle table and was a steady flow until 12:15, before tickets drawn at 1pm. Managed to grab lunch before collection of prizes :)

Speaker starts at 2pm - this year we had Sarah Slater talk about “Sex, Secrets, Scandals and Salacious Gossip of the Royal Court 1660 to 1830”. Excellent talk, quite an eye opener and detailed (warning was given before she started). Sarah is a guide lecturer at Hampton Court Palace and does tours in costume (she makes all her own costumes). Those royals were quite naughty!!! :)

After the talk, cake and tea and then pack up - we managed to leave before 5pm. Glad to be hone, exhausting day - hopefully attendees enjoyed it. Our lace display (sadly none of my lace) was lovely and as our 40th lace day, members had completed penants (especially during covid lockdown) which was displayed on the stage curtain :)

Feet up tonight - strictly back on :)
