Industrial chic

This afternoon we travelled on the London Underground for the first time since December 2019.  Given that our nearest underground station is a few minutes walk away, this is quite a long time.  Our destination was Whitechapel where we stayed overnight at New Road Hotel.  The purpose of this trip to the East End was a very much downsized reunion of Mr MC's year group at The London Hospital.  The reunion was supposed to take place last year, marking then, 50 years since they had commenced their training,  with a very much larger group, hiring a room at the hospital for dinner and including a tour of the dental school.  In the event we were a group of just nine, three  of us not even alumni, but a great time was had by all, not at all spoiled by our small number.
New Road Hotel was formerly a clothing warehouse and has been converted to a hotel which is the epitome of industrial chic, which does not always mean the epitome of comfort: note to selves, if we return do not book a miniscule 'pocket room' where the bed is enclosed  by walls on three sides and can only be approached from the foot...
Pictured here is a rather flamboyant chair, just outside the restaurant, once sat in by Marco Pierre White, the chef who gives his name to their restaurant.
In other news: today is daughter #2's birthday, but she will spend the evening out with friends and we will catch up for a family dinner tomorrow.
