Ivy attraction

We’ve spent the day at home today. Despite that, two great wildlife attractions were highlights.

Firstly, opening the front door first thing to put out a milk bottle and bags for collection (its Ocado delivery morning) I heard that distinctive sound. Looking up a skein of pink footed geese flying west to east against a clear blue sky. Simply fantastic.

And secondly, a sunny day at last, which brought the insects out. We have a lot of Ivy, which is now flowering and providing late nectar. It seems to particularly attract flies and wasps, it was a busy part of the garden today. I took this shot on a step ladder, mindful to respect the wasps who were in any event focussed on the ivy’s tack shaped florets.
