Gasworks Park

Lake Union was like a mill pond this morning so H and I headed this way in our rowing shell (instead of the alternative to Lake Washington - Tuesday's blip). I'm having a good time with the new little Sony camera which is nicely protected in the wet bag. There is so much to photograph from this vantage point. However, my friend J is much more patient than H who demands " are we here to row or take pictures ?" But I managed this one with the scaups on the water in front of Gasworks Park with an overcast sky ( which turned blue and oh so lovely , later on). Played with it a bit on the iPad since my computer is taking 7 hours to put my aperture library on the new external drive !
Gasworks was originally a plant to manufacture gas from coal, was cleaned up and has been a park since 1975. There is a new ecological survey going on right now to determine underground effects of this manufacturing and sediments in Lake Union- drilling is going on to take samples - think that's what the yellow tapes are about. Hummmm..
Here's a link to info about what's going on if you are interested.
The grandsons are coming for dinner tonight while their parents go to a movie.
Last night we watched "the Lathe of Heaven"- a 1979 movie based on Ursula le Guin's book and reportedly the only one of hers she was pleased with as a movie. Pretty interesting special effects for then- a Sci Fi tale about dreams making reality.
