Gills

A mild but overcast day with a blustery breeze - not inspiring photographic weather. I spent the morning working at the computer, but after lunch I escaped for a couple of hours of quiet contemplation at Swaddywell Pit where I came across lots of clumps of Clustered Domecap (see extra) which I've never noticed before despite it being reasonably common, often in disturbed areas of grassland. It was growing close to other fungi of rich soils including Shaggy Inkcap and Weeping Widow. By contrast, the most infertile soils supported good numbers of Blackening Waxcap and Snowy Waxcap - always good to see. My main image is a macro of the gills of Clustered Domecap, converted to mono.
