Feather

Judgement comes to us all.

When we have passed over, our soul is weighed against a feather. If the weight of guilt pulls down the scale on the side of the soul, we go to the dark underworld. If our soul is lighter than the feather, we go to the other place. Everyone – beggar or King - is judged in thi sway. There is no avoiding the judgement.

But there are ways. There are always ways. The rich man can arrange to be buried with an Ostrich feather. When balanced against such a large feather, his soul can afford to carry the burden of a little more guilt. They say that the King is buried with an Ostrich feather that is as tall as a man and which, just to be on the safe side, is made of solid gold.

What can you or I do? We could not afford an Ostrich feather – or even a peacock’s feather!

But the recording God is not heartless. She allows us to catch our tears on the feather before it is placed upon the scales. The damp feather helps to excuse a small amount of guilt – such as that caused by the stealing of a loaf of bread to feed our children.
