Candles and clusters

Banksia aemula (Wallum Banksia) is still flowering in the nearby Lake Ainsworth sandy heathland. This webpage by the Australian Native Plant Society explains that banksia flowers are small, candle shaped tubes, which form clusters of many hundreds of flowers. Individually, each flower is insignificant. Collectively, they make a wonderfully dramatic display.
