Seine with Branches

An image from the Pont Marie in Paris, looking east from the beginning of the bridge (it goes south from here).  On the left is a bit of the highway along the right bank, in the background is the Ile St. Louis, which divides the Seine in the middle of Paris. (See the map! For Paris it's marvelous.)  The sun was shining but only intermittently, through thin clouds, belying the grayness of the last few weeks.

It was Easter Saturday, and we had hoped to see an exhibition on the history of advertising in France at the Bibliotheque Forney near the Pont Marie.  But the holiday Saturday torpedoed our plans and we went on to survey the shops along the Rue St. Louis en Ile, which runs along the  middle of the small island. The shops are utterly dazzling, and seem to turn over constantly.  However striking, my blips of them couldn't compete with this quintessentially Parisian view.
