Hawthorn Tree

Wrapped up well this morning, I went for a walk on the common. Although exposed to the cold north wind, there are nice views towards Dartmoor and it’s s easy walking on the close-cropped turf and crunchy, brown bracken. Scattered across the common there are oak and Hawthorn trees. The gnarled trunks of the hawthorns with their rough textures and contorted lines can be quite photogenic. There are many stories and legends associated with Hawthorn trees and their appearance certainly adds to the sense of mystery.
