Pub Portrait - Fidbo

The second in an occasional series.

Andy.
Andy Fid.
Andy Fidler.
Fidbo.

Returned to us now after 15 years hiding in Greece, supposedly retired.

Actor, path lab operative [he knew my daughter was born before most], socialist, actor, cricketer, actor. AmDram...he's been in it.

He played a teacher in Our Day Out when I played the cocky teenager. A great play and a great production. Willy Russell. Mind you not as good as the very underrated Murder Off The Orient Express which had limited runs whenever it ran, but he was always in them.

He's always been around, always been there. A supporter of our band, and one of the original gang.

The best Andy story I have is me and him in 1990 arriving at Hector's House [yes] to watch an Eng v Nigeria World Cup group match. We came with beer cans in a noisy plastic bag.

Hector had an Alsatian which was locked in the kitchen. As Hector went to collect others Andy and I with our noisy plastic bag of beer sat on a noisy leather sofa.

Hector's last words were don't make any noise as the dog can jump through the hatch....

We sat in silence for 20 mins.
