Croc One

The boat that Steve Irwin was last on when he sadly passed away back in 2006 :(.

Bridgette’s indigenous river cruise was postponed to today. We boarded a lovely yacht at Mooloolaba Wharf and were welcomed on board and to “country” by an “elder” in the community who is also called Bridgette, Aunty Bridgette to be precise. It was lovely to see an indigenous ceremony complete with sticks and sage burning to grant safe passage on the river.

As we sailed through the river, Aunty Bridgette shared many legends of how the rivers came to be and tales of her ancestors. She also pointed out that this was the boat that Steve Irwin was using in North Queensland when we sadly passed.

His zoo, Australia Zoo is not far from us here on the Sunshine Coast, and the boys and I have been many times when they were younger. Can’t wait to visit it again, once this wave dies down a bit.

Been a lovely day out with the family on the cruise, learning more about the origins of this part of the world.
