Llanberis old slate quarry

Our last day and we had a walk around the old slate quarry at Llanberis.  The slate industry was a huge industry and this quarry was the second largest in the world (it's above the National Slate Museum which explains it's history).

The area is now remains of the old buildings and mountains of waste slate. Nature is trying to make a comeback with silver birch and other plants growing amongst the slate.

I've put a photo of mountain goats as an extra, they're amazingly footsure on the slate and mountainside.

We returned home and were glad of a meal from the village chippie to save cooking.  It was a great few days away.
