Thermal Imaging

Miss Flum is taking thermal images of her house as Before and After the cavity wall insulation. She demonstrated how it works by training it on the freshly-made mugs of coffee (with cold milk added) next to the kettle.

As you can see by the scale on the right, the handles of the mugs and kettle are still cold, the contents are hot (around 50°C), the mugs themselves around 40°C. The area of the kettle's element is still around 80°C, while the surroundings are at room temperature. The coldest spot appears to be the used teabag from breakfast time.

She also measured our hands - mine being rather warmer than Mr Flum's - and noses, just for fun.

Now we await the next readings of the house once the insulation is in place and the heating has had time to return to normal usage.
