North to visit the Penguins

Since I was on the outskirts of Edinburgh (see yesterday's blip) it would have seemed wrong not to pop into the Zoo to see how the newly returned King Penguins are getting on.

The King Penguins have recently been on holiday down south (England!) while their dramatic new enclosure was being constructed in Edinburgh, and returned to Edinburgh just a few days ago. Kings have been present at the zoo since 1914 when the Salvesen Whaling Company brought them back from South Georgia.

You can't really compare a small group like this with the huge colonies I saw on South Georgia a few months ago, but it was good to see them in the feather.
