GRANGE-OVER-SALT MARSHES

For those that don't know, Grange-over-Sands really, but the salt marshes is more accurate these days.

Grange-Over-Sands is first mentioned on record as far back as 1536 when the ancient Cartmel Priory Registers recall 'Grange-with-Kents Bank'. The name Grange derives from the old French word 'Grainge' meaning bar for storing grain. The town developed in the Victorian era from a small fishing village and the arrival of the railway in 1857 made it a popular seaside resort on the north side of Morecambe Bay, across the sands from Morecambe. The "over-Sands" suffix was added in the late 19th or early 20th century by the local vicar, who was fed up with his post going to Grange in Borrowdale near Keswick

Just popped into town today for a nice walk along the Prom then met p with Hubby in Thyme Out for coffee before coming home.

This afternoon I had the U3A Digital Photography Club monthly meeting via zoom, which went very well.  We're hoping to meet up in person next month back in the original venue of the Grange Institute but they are limiting attendees 12.  That is the normal number anyway, but occasionally it goes over to 15 or 16 but that is a bit squished, not good in covid times, so we are now limiting numbers and just need to register with the Chair whether we intend to go or not.   That's a great idea  We have agreed that we will do a lateral flow test before going and wear masks when not sat our our seats.

Storm Dudley has been all around us, but we were very lucky and not affected by it.  It was quite grey this morning but this afernoon whilst on zoom the sun came out and it was a lovely afternoon - typical!!!

Now preparing for Storm Eunice, which has been given a rare red warning for the South West and Wales.

Must go now and I will catch up on your blips tomorrow.  Do take care and stay safe, including preparing well for the forthcoming storm.  See you all tomorrow.
