Animal encounters

We’ve had a great day at Hesketh Farm near Bolton Abbey.

A bright sunny day but a pretty cool wind so we spent the majority of the time indoors.

The first thing you see is a circle of straw bales to sit on where the little ones are encouraged to hold, stroke and groom Guinea Pigs. Eda was in her element but Jude wasn’t impressed at all!

Later there was a call to bottle feed the calves, again Eda loved it.
There were several litters of pigs with one of 14 born this morning! Goats, lambs and chicks were also to be seen in various pens and cages.

There were toy tractors for different size children to play on, the bigger ones for Eda had pedals and a twisty track to negotiate. She did really well.

After some coffee and lunch (also available on the premises) we ventured outside. Lots of play equipment with views over the lovely country side but the grass was pretty churned up due to the recent weather, even though the farm only reopened for half term after winter closure. Eda got to sit on a real tractor.

The only downside was today was really busy. We don’t have any choice but to go in school holidays like many other people and I would certainly go again if the children are up. There will be more for Jude too when she’s a bit older.

We’ve had a great three days, sadly now over. They go home after tea as Grace has a show rehearsal tomorrow evening.
She’s also going home to building work at the house so she’s got the girls back in nursery on Friday.
