It turns out, when she said "let there be light" the electrician heard "let there be a consumer unit, a couple of sockets and a switch and let's not connect any of it to the national grid". I'm sure they're doing it to wind me up now.

The only sensible solution to the no water, no light, no electric, no kitchen thing was to have dinner with Sophie. Part work, part gossip. Ending a dull day with giggles is always the best remedy.
