HOLLYWOOD FINCHES HEAD EAST

Originally, House Finches were located in the Western U.S.
In the 40's, a few entrepreneurs captured House Finches in California,
With a plan to sell the caged birds to New Yorkers.

Called Hollywood Finches,
They were to brighten a home during the long winter.
While singing from the confines of their cage, of course.

The birds weren't a "big sell".
Mostly because it was illegal to own one.
To avoid being caught "finch handed",
The birds were let loose on Long Island, New York.
And, that, my friends is how the Finch got to New York.
