Pelican of London

In Dartmouth today for the start and finish of a nine mile walk along the coastal path and inland, returning to the town down the wonderfully named Jawbone Hill. The sail training ship Pelican of London was moored in the river. Reminded me of this poem. Had to look it up.

‘A wonderful bird is the pelican
His beak can hold more than his belly can
He can hold in his beak
Enough food for a week
But I’ll be darned if I know how the helican’
