Mother's Day

An elaborate display outside the flower shop near our office for Palestinian Mother's Day. I saw lots of men carrying flowers, and the local restaurants were buzzing with families treating their matriarchs.

PCHR published a narrative in advance, written by my colleague, to mark International Women's Day and Mother's Day.

She interviewed Huda Tafesh, the mother of little Haneen, the baby who was killed on the second day of the war in November, and whose photograph I took as she was brought into the ICU.

After the narrative was published, we were contacted by Global Communities, a non-profit with an office in the Gaza Strip which carries out reconstruction work. Together with Bank of Palestine, they had pledged to reconstruct the Tafesh family home in time for the birth of their new baby. They will also provide $2,000 of non-food items for the baby - toys, clothes, a crib, as such. A small success which will hopefully make the young family's life a bit easier.
