Zap the Gap …

As soon as the news outlets announce a shortage the panic buyers are out in force. No sunflower cooking oil anywhere. The shortage understandably is directly linked to the war raging in Ukraine. Our inconvenience is simply nothing compared with what the Russian Army is inflicting on innocent people, like you and me, most recently in Ukraine.

The fear of missing out amongst the great British public sees shop shelves stripped bare. It also happened in the first Covid lockdown when NHS staff were confronted by empty shelves at the end of their marathon life saving shifts. Much is made, again by the media, about the great British public and how they pull together to support the community. This panic buying makes me wonder how we would be coping if the missiles were raining down on us and not Ukraine. “The me first” ethic seems to be deeply embedded in our so called society now.

In other news the sun shone. The lawn was mown. We walked around the lanes. And a new book shop is opening in our village soon!
