On the Pacific Crest Trail near Warner Springs

The Pacific Crest Trail runs for over 2600 miles from the USA/Mexican border in the south to the USA/Canada border in the north, following the highest portion of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges, which lie 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km) east of the U.S. Pacific coast.

We walked all of 3 miles of the trail from Warner Springs towards Eagle Rock before returning back the same way. Plenty of miles still to do! Pacific Crest Trail is one of 3 such long distance trails in the USA, the others being the Appalachian Trail (2100) and the Continental Divide Trail (3100) People who walk all 3 are known as "Triple Crowners"

The walk from Warner Springs began in a sheltered valley with trees and running water which ascended eventually breaking out into wide open spaces with extensive views. This shot was taken as we turned round to come back and shows the open spaces so difficult to capture in a picture.

This was a dog friendly walk - so many trails are not dog friendly, which cuts out your options if you own a dog.

Earlier we drove from San Diego to Julian for lunch before moving on to Warner Springs. Julian is an interesting little town, busy with a "taste of Julian" event. The last 20 miles of the journey being along a twisty but very beautiful road from the freeway.
