Power not giving way....

I had always understood that a  power driven vessel must give way to a sailing vessel unless the sailing vessel is in the process of overtaking it.   However on checking the COLREGS (the International Treaty that lays out the maritime "rules of the road")  it appears not to be quite that simple .

Certainly today on the Clyde this Singapore registered oil and chemical tanker, the Bro Agnes,,  was going nowhere, though to be fair that was not out of discourtesy, but because she was firmly anchored at what is known as the "Tail of the Bank" .

Consequently the few sailing vessels that were out on the water in ideal conditions (if a little hazy) were overtaking , and making their way round ,   her, something that I was lucky enough to catch while driving along the shore road in Sandbank.
