Stoking the Boiler

Stoking the Boiler
Spent a most excellent day at Papplewick Pumping Station near Nottingham. It was built in 1882 - 1885 to help provide freshwater to Nottingham by pumping it from a 200ft deep well.

The workshop was organised by Line+Light and run by Martine Hamilton Knight. This is the third Architectural Workshop I have attended run by Martine. The Pumping Station Volunteers were getting ready for an event weekend so a few were on site getting the boiler up to temperature.

There was just 8 photographers on site so this was an ideal opportunity to photograph this magnificent bit of Victorian Architecture.
