The water mill

One of the famous landmarks in the village where I live is this old red brick water mill. It was built in 1822 and was in use until 1928 when it was deemed no longer economical to use. During World War II a Canadian tank collided with the main mill building causing much damamge, and in 1953 part of the mill was demolished by the council to alleviate traffic congestion on the road beside it.

Today only the grist mill is left standing, and it is now looked after by a conservation trust.

It has been a funny old day today, a cold wind yet it is rather sunny, and all the buds are finally out on the trees, some already in glorious bloom.
