The Bridges of ....

the Ribble and Hodder valleys.

Not the covered wooden Bridges of Madison County, although it did involve a photographer with a romantic attachment to his guide :-)

Gill plotted a cycling route from Clitheroe out to the West touring four local bridges and a big hill.  My main image is the old bridge (Cromwell's Bridge) over the Hodder close to the villages of Great Mitton and Hurst Green.  Cromwell and his army passed over the bridge marching from Skipton to Preston.  It is also said to be the inspiration for Brandywine Bridge in LoTR.

A newer bridge (in the extra) now carries the road.
