Townhall

The town hall of the city of Leuven.

The town hall on the Grote Markt, was built in late Gothic Brabant. Three master builders were responsible for the works, which took place between 1439 and 1469: first Sulpitius van Vorst, who died in 1439, then Jan II Keldermans, who died in 1445, and finally Matthijs de Layens. He had been a student of Sulpitius van Vorst. The reception room in the town hall, where some valuable paintings hang, dates from 1750.
