Equine neonatal ICU

This little chap was born by emergency C section in the early hours of Friday morning. Sadly his mum didn't make it.

Horses are not designed to be born even a little premature so he has significant problems to overcome, including breathing unaided, sucking, avoiding infection and learning to stand. If he makes it through the next 48 hours he will then be matched to a surrogate mother.

The vets and nursing staff at the Royal Veterinary Hospital, Potters Bar are doing their very best for him. Lets hope it will not all be in vain.

The bandage round his face are holding the tubes that are giving oxygen support.
