Yellow Rattle

(Rhinanthus)

How can I live for the best part of seventy years and still come across wildflowers I've never met before? I'm glad that is the case, as it makes life interesting. There's a clearing at the top of the woodland here that is becoming a flower meadow. At present it seems to be predominantly this little yellow flower and plantain. Plus the odd buttercup. Very pretty! Apparently, when it goes to seed, the seed pods rattle in the wind, hence its common name.
