Torrey Pines State Park, San Diego

So many shots to choose from today and I'm not sure I've chosen the best one even after several reviews.

Torrey Pines State Park is a small area preserving a coastal chaparral plant community, the rare and elegant Torrey pine trees, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds.

It has become a favourite place of ours after just a couple of visits. It is the combination of the chaparral, trees and beaches that make it special.

I could have posted shots of the awesome cliffs and beaches but as I have already posted a similar shot of the cliffs at Del Mar I though it would be more appropriate to show what the environment at the top of the cliffs is like.

This shot shows the youngest (less than a million years) and most easily eroded sandstone rocks known as the Bay Point Formation which form these scenic badland formations. Below the Bay Point formations are a succession of increasingly older rocks of various colours, different layers and compositions which lead to staggeringly beautiful cliff faces.

Ealier in the day we spent some time looking around La Jolla particularly the the many up market shops before having a coffee and muffin at Panera Bakery.

In the evening we went to the Brockton Villa restaurant on La Jolla Cove to celebrate Chris and De' Shaun's engagement and thank them for putting us up these past 2 weeks
