Naughty Bus!

What an incredible difference in the weather from one day to the next! Yesterday the temperature reached about 32° and everywhere felt suffocating. Today the temperature dropped to about 19° to 20° and it’s been breezy, with some brief showers.

We looked after granddaughter #2 today for about six hours. She was as good as gold for us, even though I had to spend some time encouraging her to do her homework. I certainly never had homework at four years old and, as L is the youngest girl at the local primary school, (she’s not five until the end of August), I really felt for her.

First of all we had to make up a story about Naughty Bus, who is given to each child in the class in turn over the year to take home and make a pictorial record of all the ‘naughty’ things that the bus does. Granny duly took photos of all the antics Naughty Bus got up to in the play room, and then L wrote a little story by way of explanation to accompany the photographs. Well, actually, Granny wrote most of the story and then L filled in words in a few of the gaps that Granny had left for her to write in. This seems to be an acceptable method of achieving the required result, judging from previous entries!

Following that, we had this weekend’s homework to complete. It was all about maps, and their associated directional words. L was by this time getting quite tired, but she managed to write two sentences all by herself underneath the photo that I put at the top of the page, showing the forest land behind their garden. She described how she walks to the forest from her house. I was so proud of how well she did it.

How my daughter-in-law manages to help L do her homework when she is also looking after L’s lively two-year old sister, and when my son works long hours and is often at work over the weekend, I just don’t know. I was so tired by the time L went home that I dozed in the chair for half an hour. Naughty Granny!
