Earth Day/Anniversary tradition

Laurie and I have a tradition of going to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens every year on or near our anniversary. It's a gorgeous park on a lake with good scooter-friendly trails all around it. Not only are there lots of rhodies, there are multitudes of other plants and trees, waterfowl and song birds. Liza did her best to chase away the ducks and geese (even though some of them are twice her size). This guy didn't take too kindly to the attention.

It was a beautiful day today, sunny and warm, a perfect day for our traditional stroll. The rhodies aren't all in full bloom yet, but enough of them are to add huge splashes of color, and the trees are leafed out in that lovely fresh spring green that is so lush and promising.

There are lots more photos in this Google album, including an elusive red wing blackbird and a very odd looking cormorant.

Here's Laurie's take on our afternoon.

In honor of Earth Day, I leave you with this wisdom by E.B. White:

I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.

Amen!
