Borrowed Time

The hope associated with yesterday's daisies died at 11:30 this morning when a phone call from the vet gave me the news I'd been dreading. The x-ray she'd done showed Bardy's chest is full of growths, around 10 or more of them, each around 2cm. This meant that surgery to remove the lump was pointless and would only put him through extra and unnecessary suffering.

So he's back home again with steroids to slow the pace of their growth and high protein/ high energy food to try and get some weight on to him.

And we wait, and we fuss over him, molly-coddle and just generally love him to bits. He was always the King of the house. Now he's something more.

On borrowed time we now depend
And to you dear Bardy, all love we send
Our thanks for the joy you brought
For the lessons that you have taught
For us and for our children also
Questions, I would ask, before you go
What was it that made you this way
What caused the C that's taking you away
What illness did you suffer and endure
Or was it poison, how can we be sure
Was it simply just a product of your age
Are we about to read your natural closing page
And one final thing, please tell me true
How are we ever to live without you?
