YORKSHIREBRED

Ancient and modern

Backblipped for Friday. Today we walked part way to the city centre and then caught a bus the rest of the way.  Impressed by the bus fares - one flat fare whatever the distance, and very frequent buses. Got off on the Royal Mile and visited the New Parliament Building after being passed as non-security risks by very friendly security guards and police!  :-) Interesting to listen to a short talk on the history, and see the mace and other iconic items.  Had a look at the outside of Holyrood House - expensive entrance fee, but many seemed happy to pay it. Wandered around the sites, and I liked the juxtaposition of the modern houses and the Old Royal High School (New Parliament House) on the hillside above - spotted as we looked around a very old graveyard behind Canongate Kirk.  More photos in extras.  We eventually ended up at St Giles’s Cathedral and noticed that a free concert was due to start. We stayed for an hour listening to the wonderful singing by Beaconsfield Girls School from Buckinghamshire who were on a tour of the UK.  They were fabulous, and the music was very varied and uplifting.  We then spent a while on Princes Street trying to find the right bus stop for a bus going in the right direction to take us back to our hotel!  A good day with lots of sites and sights seen!
